From a Newsletter reader, "Robert Richardson, DP, talks about the digital grading of the film for nearly 10 minutes, starting about 30 minutes in. Find out why Quentin Tarantino hates Power Windows!" (via Marc Wielage)

Colorist Greg Fisher does a good job sharing the thoughts and background to the decisions and workflows that went into designing the look of this Brad Pitt film. (via Marc Wielage)
Are you wondering how Mistika handles ACES and HDR workflows? This webinar aims to answer your questions. October 3. Registration required.

Have you graded a short film that used FilmConvert? They've opened up submissions to their film festival. Let your clients know.

This three-day seminar promises, "you will understand color processing well enough to determine whether a proposed color workflow is self-consistent; to document the interfaces between components in the workflow so that others can integrate their contributions; and to diagnose common imaging workflow problems." I sooo want to go. Wednesday, October 16-18. Brooklyn, NY.

Do you have a client with a significant YouTube presence? This is a good article to forward.

(video) The Object Removal filter is one of my favorite new features in this release cycle. Not only does it work, it often works in situations where you think it'll utterly fail. This video shows how it works (it takes a little setup).

The special show pricing for Boutique ends at midnight, Sept. 30. If you're thinking of checking out this system, now's the time to act.

Because many of our pro apps are scriptable.

Oliver Peters does a great job outlining how to ensure you can always link back to your camera original footage from proxies. My only comment: It's a workflow that only non-Fools can execute ;-)

Are you switching from Mac to PC? Here are a few ideas to get you up to speed.

Flanders Scientific Professional 4K HDR Reference Monitors
The DM240 SDR Mastering Monitor pairs perfectly with the XM311K HDR Mastering monitor.

They are an excellent visual match, allowing you to be certain that the differences you see between your HDR and SDR monitors are attributable to your grades rather than fundamental differences in display technology.

I love the theme of this cart: Mobility. It's precisely that. Any smaller and it'd just be a laptop in a briefcase.

The takeaway: "Much of the Gen 4 SSD launch is marketing hype, but it's true that the drives are objectively faster, so it's always great to see technology progress."

Recently announced: "This is a setting for Ultra-HD and 4K TV sets that turns off all post-processing and allows you to see exactly what is on the video source you are using". Sounds great but I can't help it and ask, "What's the catch?" (via Rob Trombino)

LCD panels are starting to give OLED a run for your money. But are Chinese fabricators starting to compete with their Japanese counterparts on quality? Time will tell.

Interesting.

USB4 is finalized. No longer is it given some crazy naming. It now also incorporates Thunderbolt 3 after Intel donated the spec to the standards body. Click through for the details.

Sunday Fun(nies)
Random thoughts, tidbits, and fun stuff that caught my attention this week. Maybe it's color grading related. Maybe not. Ya got'ta read to the end of the Newsletter to find out.
(video) It'll be fun when this comes to a grading platform near you! (Question: Am I spitting in the wind by pointing out that this is not Not NOT Artificial Intelligence??? Machine Learning people! It's simple.)

It's a fun read - even the bit about the 'postmortem photography' fad.

Th- th- th- that's all folks! See you next Sunday!
