This Newsletter is on hiatus for the next 5 weeks.
Starting next Sunday, no Newsletters until September 8 - the Sunday after Labor Day weekend. August is Tao HQ's annual summer retreat.
What will I be doing with this time? Kayaking, definitely. I'll also be in Beijing for BIRTV teaching at the ZunZheng booth (along with the rest of Team Mixing Light). I'll also be attending Beijing's first Colorist Mixer (details at this link).
The rest of my time is largely unscheduled, but I plan on also taking off from work for a full week. I hope you can also do the same for yourself, this August.

Phil Holland offers this report from the Warner lot at the Spears and Munsell HDR Calibration disc demo: "Sony had on hand a mysterious prototype "Gargantuan" UHD 4K 10,000 nit screen, being currently coined the 10K BMD, this display hasn't been seen outside of a Sony lab before today and there's only 3 in the world." (forum) This links to the description of various fixes and improvements in the Beta 7 release. These last two releases are primarily stability releases. When do I think we'll see the final shipping release of Resolve 16? I put 3:1 odds on the first half of September. And 2:1 odds that they drop some major new feature on us with the final shipping release :-)

The only bit of advice I offer on this topic to working colorists: Feed the output of your workstation into a proper LUT box - and then into the consumer display. Then calibrate to generate a proper 3D LUT. The result can be very workable.
