Hola from Orlando!

August is over. The US Labor Day holiday is past. That means the Tao Newsletter is shipping again. We're glad to be back.

IBC is about to start which means one thing:

The 2019 IBC Colorist Mixer is this Saturday!!

Sign up for it here:
IBCcoloristMixer19.eventbrite.com

At the time of this writing, there are also 2 tickets remaining for the Colorist Cruise that precedes the Mixer.

Don't wait. If you're going to attend you can have your demo reel playing on the displays at the venue. But the submission deadline for reels is Wednesday.
Do you want IMDb to include a new category for the 'Color Department'?

The CSI team has been lobbying IMDb to break out everyone involved in the digital color pipeline into their own department. Mostly because colorists are scattered between 4 different departments, rather haphazardly. It makes us rather difficult to find on bigger productions and series.

IMDb asked CSI to poll the community, to see if there's enough interest behind the idea? Make your voice heard. Yeah or nay, this is where you can vote:

https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/

You will have to create a GetSatisifaction account to vote. But I think it's worth the effort.
Welcome back to ENDCRAWL as a Newsletter Sponsor!

If you have ever found yourself dealing with end credits then you should check out the free Endcrawl demo account offer for Tao Newsletter subscribers.

Endcrawl is a service you can upsell to your clients (while removing a major headache from your life).

Also be sure to read Pliny's article in the Craft section about how Endcrawl secured financing in a very non-traditional manner. It turns out that digital companies serving our industry have a problem with Silicon Valley investors not aligning with their needs.

About this week's Newsletter...

I was surprised with the number of interesting articles I found over the August hiatus. I was doubly surprised how much camera & lens news there was (and relieved that it's outside the purview of this publication). As usual, I've collected more content than I can publish in a week - so many of these stories will be shared over the month of September.

I've prioritized the IBC specific stuff. Plus, with the release of Resolve 16 final - I've also prioritized that content. But don't miss the Mistika Boutique IBC special offer, if you've been eyeing that bit kit.

Happy Grading!

I'll see you next Sunday.

(and remember - if you have a story that's a fit for this Newsletter, hit reply or email it to 'newsletter@taoofcolor.com'! Include a quick reason for the suggested link.)

As an ex-editor myself - I too find the name of Resolve 16's new frame counting tool rather ridiculous (but it did get them headlines). If you don't know what the new 'Boring Detector' is then click through to be schooled.

(forum) If you're diving into VFX work in Resolve Fusion then you may find this discussion educational.

It looks like Avid really is trying to wake up their Media Composer granddaddy.

With both AMD and NVIDIA recently launching a number of new video cards, it is time to once again see what the best GPU is for Resolve."
