What are the chances of a Starbucks cup showing up in Westeros tonight on the series finale of Game Of Thrones?

I don't think so, either.

Are you a new reader of this Newsletter?

Here are some quick tips I like to share from time-to-time...

1) Like the New York Times, your mission is to scan and find a few articles you find interesting. Don't try clicking through to every story, every week. Down that path lies madness.

2) Category headers are organizational suggestions for me, your Editor. But sometimes I break out-of-bounds to share stories I find interesting yet don't quite fit in anywhere (this is especially true of the Craft section).

3) Feel free to send me links for stories you think should be in the Newsletter. They don't always show up in the next immediate issue, but they do tend to appear (and I'll usually credit you). Just reply to one of these emails - and you'll hit my inbox.

So, pour yourself a cup of Joe (or if you're Down Under, a glass of wine) and enjoy! I'll see you next week.

Happy Grading!

This analysis of character arcs, choices, coincidences, and plot twists rings true for me about the penultimate episode of GoT. It reflects conversations I've been having all week with friends and family - and the reasoning I've employed to help them understand their reactions to that episode (and this closing Season).

A good overview of the newest Page in DaVinci Resolve - and its place in the Resolve ecosystem.

A good, researched article about Adobe's recent warning that Creative Cloud subscribers need to update to recent versions of Adobe's software or risk getting sued by 3rd parties.

The redeeming aspect of this article is the lineup of software options with pricing.

Like the headline suggests - offload multiple camera cards in parallel.

RED creatives, rejoice: "RED Digital Cinema has released its RED R3D SDK and accompanying REDCINE-X PRO software with accelerated decode and debayering on NVIDIA® CUDA platforms."

(video) This interview focuses on the technology driving FSI's two high-end HDR displays, the differences and challenges of those technologies, and if they represent the future of high-end displays?

This is probably one of the best articles I've read about Quantum Dots and their suitability in a Rec.2020 world - and why EL QDs are different from what you find in today's displays.

A good review and comparison of the refreshed iMacs to the iMac Pro. If you're in the market, this is worth the read.

ICA's Kevin Shaw shares his observations and thoughts about the Samsung Onyx HDR cinema screen. Up to 500 nits of peak white, Kevin demo'ed this screen in Frankfurt and spent a day grading to it, as well.

This GPU is designed for gamers and 'content creation workloads'. How does it stack up against other high-end GPUs for the Mac?
An opinion piece about the computer hardware requirements of most modern post houses. The article is edit-centric. But in another 5 years, my prediction is we'll be having this discussion on the finishing/color grading side of the business.
Sunday Fun(nies)
Random thoughts, tidbits, and fun stuff that caught my attention this week. Maybe it's color grading related. Maybe not. Ya got'ta read to the end of the Newsletter to find out.
Is Daenerys Targaryen riding a Dragon? It seems, not even close. As everyone knows, the great dragons disappeared eons ago and the creatures on HBO are bloodlines of smaller descendants. Read all about it here - and be prepared to wage battle on the Reddit Game of Thrones sub-forums! Fun, if you're a GoT fan. (via Dan Moran)
