Two quick things this week:

1. I officially joined the 30-year veteran club.

The curse of our time is that any reasonably intelligent person can pursue (almost) any career they desire. It's a modern curse because there's an array of never-ending forks you can take if you get bored in your career.

Trust me, I've gotten bored at various times. I've looked over the fence at greener lawns. I've come close to making a major career switch several times.

Yet somehow, this week I celebrated an anniversary. On February 12, 1989 I started my first job as a full-time employee at a full service production / post production company (NorthEast Video, in the Graybar Building in Manhattan).

That means, this week I celebrated my 30th Anniversary as a post production professional.

K-razy!

I'm not sure the meaning of that longevity. But there it is.

2. NAB is almost here so some quick bits of Tao Colorist Newsletter info:

- The Colorist Mixer is Sunday, April 7 at 7pm. Details are at the website. Tickets go on sale March 7 (earlier for Newsletter readers). So set your travel plans accordingly.

- Team Mixing Light (of which I am a founding partner) will be on the show floor in the South Floor! Plan to pencil us into your show floor travel route - more details in the coming weeks.

- Sign up for your Exhibition Pass! Register at this link. Use the FSI code LV2636 for a free pass (expires mid-March, so just do it now).

That's all from me. While prepping last week's Newsletter I was sick so this week we're a little longer than usual. Enjoy. I'll see you next Sunday.

Happy Grading!

"The first time we did a test, we let the participants adjust lift and gain using a control surface and discovered that there’s a reason why colorists get paid a lot of money”. Great line. The takeaway is probably summed up in the last line of the article.
After a decade of teaching at these kinds of conferences, April 2019 will mark one full year of zero live training events for your humble Publisher. I've signed up as a paid attendee to this conference (changing things up). If you're going to be there then I'll see you in Orlando on Feb. 20! Be sure to say hello.

(video) Maybe because I'm now a 30-year vet of this industry, but I enjoyed hearing how this emerging generation is finding the joys of leveling-up their workflows.

iXML is a simple concept. And, you'd think, simple to support. After giving two of the A's a wedgie, this post shows how Resolve and FCPx support this metadata.
