...was busy, busy, busy. I had to migrate from Tao HQ (in Orlando) up north to Washington DC. I got to put on my director / producer hat for a new video training series for a corporate client.

Hopefully, if things go as planned, you'll be able to see the fruits of that labor in the near future. I can say this: It was the first time I had to keep script notes since my senior year in Hofstra's Film/TV program. In 1987!

It was great fun! And it went so smooth you'd almost think we were professionals (I suspect the 8 weeks of pre-production helped ;-). Of course, with the shoot wrapped, we're only half finished.

See you next Sunday (and remember, here in the USA our clocks got set back 1 hour last night).

Happy Grading!

If you've got between $500,000 and $5 million to produce a film - then should you choose the horror genre? The numbers are interesting.

If Netflix wants their best features nominated for Emmys, it's either this or buy their own theater chain. The latter didn't work out, so I guess this is their stopgap strategy.

FDTimes.com releases PDF Special Reports. Tao Newsletter reader Vivian Pimenta wrote in to let us know their latest Special Report on the Sony Venice 2.0 has a good tutorial on de-squeezing anamorphic images in Resolve using a mix of settings and tools. Click on the link to download the PDF. It's starts on Page 87.
This tutorial definitely falls under the category of 'hack'. But if you need to share your Media Libraries remotely, with much smaller proxy files, then it may be useful for you.
Click through for a quick list of updates. Unfortunately, repositioning data in XML exports is still missing in 13.0 and 13.0.1 - killing these workflows. Fortunately, I've been told it's a Priority; after a few of us confirmed and made their team aware of the bug in PrPro 2019.

The eGPU Pro is a faster version of the eGPU released earlier this year. How much faster? Click through to find out. Plus, this article shows the somewhat un-Mac-like process to enable eGPU support for FCPx.
[video] After 4 years, the MacMini is refreshed. It's so souped up, Apple can forget about it for another 4 years! This refresh includes a 10GigE port and updated GPU that might be great for both UHD monitoring in high frame rates on ScopeBox and as a ProRes render station for Windows Resolve colorists.

12- and 24- Cores are reviewed and should be interesting to colorists working on a new build of their color grading rigs.

It's that time of year, and LG is starting to clear out its channels for the 2019 models. It's tough to see prices dropping much lower, if you've been waiting to jump in on an LG B8 or C8 OLED. Fun, fun, fun!
