The Craft: Part 1
  • Blinded by Color Science - "the problem arises not with the existence of the term color science, but with its casual hijacking." We ran this piece a year ago, but as our industry transitions into wide gamut color spaces, this is a good one to re-read. (endcrawl.com)
  • [video] An Ode to Colorists - and their often underappreciated art form. It’s only 3:48 and asks, "Have you hugged your colorist today? After watching this video, you might want to." (nofilmschool.com)
  • Color Grading Darkest Hour - Famed colorist Peter Doyle talks about his workflow on the Winston Churchill bio flick, "Creating the color pipeline early on ultimately allows the filmmakers to view rushes, visual effects, digital intermediates or previews in a form that closely resembles what the final film will look like." More insights after the click. (postmagazine.com)
  • [podcast] The Terence and Philip Show Episode 77 -  about "being imposters . . . and what can be done to overcome it." (philiphodgetts.com)

  • [vIdeo] Mastering the Color Palette: Zack Snyder - associative colors, discordant colors, and monochromatic nihilism, "In Zack Snyder movies, protagonists aren't heroes, even if they wear capes. They exist in dark, grimy worlds and are themselves often extremely flawed people." (studiobinder.com via Lucía Blanco)
The Tools

  • The Relevance of Final Cut Pro X - Lumaforge's Sam Mestman and postproduction expert Ronny Courtens talk about the relevance of Final Cut Pro X “in modern postproduction.” (fcp.co)
  • Switching from MasOS? Your shortcut will not change much - “Some things in Windows run entirely different than in MacOS, but thankfully Shortcut keys are not one of them.” (pugetsystems.com)
  • In Depth - Sapphire 11 AVX from Boris FX - “Should users of version 9&10 upgrade to version 11?” That depends. The pricing metric for upgrades and new purchases requires its own chart. (provideocoalition.com)
