Secondary Thoughts
  • Editors in Edit Suites - editors and colorists share a lot in common, like spending lots of time in our suites. And like colorists, editors love their toys and their workspace. Time to geek out and see how the other half lives. (jonnyelwyn.co.uk)
  • [video] Movie Job Titles Explained - what are all those job titles you see in the credits? In a nearly 30-minute breakdown, John P. Hess takes you through nearly every single job title. At 24:53, less than a minute from the end comes, and after craft services, the colorist job title is explained. Sort of. 11 seconds to explain who we work with.  (youtube.com)

Sunday Morning Funnies
  • [video] British Airways Safety Video - if you've been flying the last few years, you know airlines have been pushing humor to get people's attention. British Airways steps up with a gaggle of famous actors and comedians and made it... Fun? Funny? Or if you're smashed into a cigar tube with 150 other people just trying to get somewhere you're not, does it matter? (youtube.com)
  • [video] BWOW - it's Spinal Tap meets premium cable title-sequence music. (youtube.com)
  • Snake knocks out power to 22K Florida Residents - okay, only sort'a funny. And not so much for the snake. But that's life (and death) at Tao HQ. (orlandoweekly.com)
  • [video] Only in Canada, eh?! - why did the Canadian geese cross the road? More importantly is how they crossed the road - and avoiding being struck by a car!  (youtube.com)
Gear Heads
  • Panasonic TX-55EZ952B OLED Review - "Of course, the LG and Sony OLEDs support Dolby Vision . . . whereas the Panasonic doesn’t..." How does it stack up? (hdtvtest.co.uk)
  • Mac Pro: Features, specifications, and prices for Apple’s workstation - if you bought the 'new' Mac Pro when it was released 4 years ago then does it make sense to upgrade to the latest, refreshed version? (macworld.com)
  • Powerline Ethernet Adapters are Everyday Magic - high-speed wifi is almost a contradiction in terms, once you move a few meters away from the base station. New mesh networks are promising, but expensive. But Ethernet over your house or office electrical lines? Their time may have arrived. (tidbits.com)
  • A year with an UHD Computer Monitor - at Tao HQ I've just started running with a UHD display on the Resolve workstation (two displays, in fact). This short review, from a gaming perspective, mirrors my initial reaction. (videocardz.com)
  • Field Test: The Lumu Light and Color Meter - convenient, useful and budget-friendly. (nofilmschool.com)

  • Google Could Spark Quantum Computing in the Cloud - "it’s uncertain if a quantum computer, which is based on “qubits” rather than 1s and 0s, can out-perform a supercomputer." It's also uncertain if the quantum computers actually compute if Google doesn't have someone staring at them 24/7. (etcentric.org)
A Step Too Far?
  • NASA says your eclipse glasses may be unsafe - "Eclipse glasses can be quite fragile, and NASA advises that there are instances in which, even if manufactured properly, they may be unsafe. If lenses are scratched or wrinkled they should not be used, and glasses older than three years are similarly dangerous." Click through for specific recommendations on manufacturers.
