  • DI Colorist Joe Gawler On ‘Arrival’ - "We did a preliminary pass through an almost locked picture, with incomplete VFX. He and I had a few days to balance and vibe on some ideas, hoping that we'd be able to come back a couple of weeks later to finish the movie." An interesting interview. (studiodaily.com)
  • HDR: An Introduction - "What is HDR? Why does it matter? Will it last? And how should we handle it? Kevin Shaw casts some light onto the brights and darks of this tech." (finalcolor.com)
  • Colorist Gregory Reese On Color Grading a 360 Film - "we introduced grading to see how the creature, characters and environment would hold up to some pushing and pulling. From there, it was a lot of back and forth on technical and creative decisions for how to best to tackle certain things, some in CG, some in the comp, and others in the grade." The Next Step Is A Doozy
  • 8i Demos Hologram Production with Mobile App - there are two things that were promised to me as a kid in the 70's that we'd have by the year 2001 and annoy me that 'they' were wrong... Flying cars. And holograms. This story is about the latter. (etcentric.org)
A Step Too Far?
  • Who’s Brave Enough to Be a Test Pilot for Flying Cars? - wait. Is 2001 finally getting here, 16 years late? "However preposterous they may seem, these vehicles are—very slowly—edging closer to reality. That much is made clear by a series of new job ads: both Kitty Hawk and Zee.Aero are currently looking to recruit flight test engineers." (technologyreview.com)

Th- Th- That's ALL Folks! We'll see you next week.
Happy Grading!
