From the Publisher
At NAB 2015, Blackmagic promised DaVinci Resolve 12 beta would ship in July

This past Monday they held to that promise and Resolve 12 Public Beta 1 was released.

Early feedback from private beta testers has emerged, so there's a fair amount of Resolve reading in this week's Newsletter. Which bring me to...

For the month of August, this Newsletter is shipping every other week

I was actually going to have us take the entire month off, but Jim looked so sad when I told him—we split the difference. After we celebrate Labor Day in the US, we'll be going back to our regular weekly schedule.

Enjoy the Newsletter and we'll see you in two weeks!

Happy Grading!
The Craft
  • The Emotion of Color - “When I look at the image with my naked eye and then with my camera and then with software, those are three completely different experiences.”  (blog.xritephoto.com via Mitch Jacobson)

(youtube.com)
  • Best Practices for Color Grading Commercials - Los Angeles-based filmmaker Noam Kroll weighs in on the meat and potatoes of television - commercials, or adverts and how to color grade them. Experienced colorists will have different points of view. It’s a fast read—even if you disagree with parts of it.  (premiumbeat.com)
  • How To Use High-Key Lighting - to know the craft of color grading is, partially, understanding the terms of craftsman cinematographers. (premiumbeat.com)
