This is the 5th Anniversary of the Tao Colorist Newsletter!
We've come a long way from that first edition, back in 2010. After launching, the Newsletter quickly grew in scope. Soon it was consuming 20 hours a week; collating, curating and
formating.
For months I struggled with the email publishing system (and 5 years later it still feels like this system was designed in 1995). Google alerts. RSS readers. Reader submissions. These things have become a constant presence.
Eventually, as the constancy of effort started to wear me down, the Tao Treasurer took an active role - prepping the Newsletter and saving me five or six hours a week. But the one thing we've been unable to eliminate, even today... are the Saturdays.
40+ Saturdays a year for 5 years I've been writing and publishing this Newsletter.
And through all of this, the Tao Treasurer has been a treasure...
Putting up with my dedication to this task, she's been a source of strength, inspiration and continuous support. Thank you,
zuite.
Yet, this Newsletter almost didn't make it to Year 5 (or even Year 4)
In the Summer of 2013 I almost shut it down. The workload was continuous with no end in sight and I was wearing out. And that's when Jim Wicks stepped up to the plate. He was attracted by the sense of community this Newsletter inspired. He felt, like so many of you have told me, that this Newsletter took a bunch of color correction misfits and tied us all together.
His contribution has been enormous... and necessary. Without Jim you wouldn't be reading this right now.
Thank you Jim, for your dedication and support for the past two years
Then there's been the continuous support of Flanders Scientific—since 2011.
Because of them, we've not had to ask you, our readers, for your direct support. And in truth, having a team like FSI consistently behind the Newsletter has been a source of validation that this publication is still worth doing.
Thank you Bram, Yohan and the entire FSI family.
You took a chance on the Newsletter when no one else would. I can't express enough what it means to me.
Finally, I want to thank YOU - our Dear Reader
Your
willingness to read these emails, click through to the links, email us stories and feedback are what keep Jim, the Tao Treasurer and I going from week to week. I'm often amazed at the quality of professional reading this publication; hearing about the impact we've had on our peers.
It's stunning, walking into a post facility and having seniors—and their assists—eager to shake the hand of your humble publisher.
Even more crazy is meeting someone for the first time and having them mention being touched by my goodbye to Chester, the Tao Canine. Or ask me how the house was after the
hurricane. Or laugh about that silly spoof video edition Jim and I recorded.
If there's one thing I wish I could change...
I wish I could get to know you as well as many of you have gotten to know me
But with every Colorist Mixer and every conference, each of those handshakes brings us both closer to that goal. And now I feel like I'm going to melt into a watery mess. I've said enough. So.
Enjoy this, our 5th year and 248th Edition of the Tao Colorist Newsletter!
We'll see you again next week. Until then...
