From the Publisher

I have a confession to make
But before we get to that, our newer readers need a little background…

This newsletter is published about 44 Sundays a year. That translates into 44 Saturdays of writing, editing and formatting. I just don’t have the time during the normal work week to get it prepped earlier than that, even with the awesome help of Managing Editor Jim Wicks.

In truth, the Tao Treasurer isn’t always completely thrilled by how we need to schedule around this publishing timeline. And rather than fight it, she’s been an active part of the Newsletter team for quite some time.

Her support makes the Tao Treasurer not only my wife but my hero. She knows I love doing this and, so, actively contributes to it.

Here’s the confession bit:
When Valentine’s Day fell on a Saturday today, not only did the Tao Treasurer get the whole breakfast-in-bed thing—I decided we’d take a break from our now-normal Saturday newsletter routine and take her to an afternoon movie. Only, after the movie we were having such a nice time we decided to continue our day. And then continue it some more. And here we are...

A newsletter in your hands, with no news
Surprisingly, I’m okay with that. A spontaneous Saturday is a rarity in these parts and I couldn’t think of a better reason for it. Nor a better person to spend it with.

The upshot? Make use of the unexpected extra time you have today. Go sledding with the kids. Or take a walk in a local park. Or sleep in late. Or read a good book (there are suggestions for good reading at the bottom of this email).

Is Valentine’s is a bit of a dark day for you?
Check out this twisted short film that was released today, Valentine’s Day, from my good friends of BloodyCuts fame. I had a blast color grading it with a team of talented up-and-coming filmmakers.

What ever way you choose to spend your extra time today, consider it a Valentine’s Day gift from the Tao Treasurer to you.

We’ll see you next week with an extra long edition of the Tao Colorist Newsletter!

Happy Grading!
