Editor's Note: This is a new-product-launch-with-a-sudden-impending-Hurricane shortened edition of the Newsletter. The Craft
- [Video] The Effect of Color - From PBS Digital comes a short 7-minute treatise on all aspects of color. I particularly like the interview with the two GIF animation artists. My favorite piece of advice, "Throw in some black & white". Worth the watch. (filmmakeriq.com)
The Tools
- [Video] Resolve and Premiere CS 6: Working with Unsupported Media - The title is misleading. It's really about unsupported effects and transitions, what happens when those effects and transitions get imported into Resolve and what happens when those all get sent from Resolve back into Premiere. The upshot? It's a mess. Note: The bit in the video that Premiere Pro CS6 is equivalent to the FCP XML... not so much. From what I can tell, Premiere Pro is using a 5 year old version of the FCP XML language (version 4). Resolve supports version 5. (youtube.com via @JimWicks)
- DaVinci Resolve V9 Shortcut Cheat Sheet - Title says it all. (iLoveHue.net via liftgammagain.com)
- SpeedGrade: Applying Creative Looks across Multiple Clips - How to use Grading Tracks in SpeedGrade. (blogs.adobe.com)
- Scopebox 3.1 Update - "New Palette: HML Balance - shows 3 vectorscope-like traces of your source, separated into Highs, Mids and Lows". I'm looking forward to upgrading my rig next month and finally giving ScopeBox a nice long look... precisely for this 3 vectorscope trace. (divergentmedia.com)
- Creating a Film Look on a Video Budget - A tutorial that focuses on using Tiffen's DFX software. (richardharringtonblog.com)
