Editors Note: This week's Newsletter was supposed to be a "Best of" edition, featuring the 'most-clicked' stories from the first half of this year. 'Supposed' being the operative word. Your humble curator is flat-out wiped-out. Hence, no newsletter this week.

I'll save you the sob story about why I'm wiped... and remind you that there won't be a Newsletter next week either - to fulfill a promise to the Tao Treasurer that we celebrate her birthday without email, the internet, the newsletter, Twitter, nothing!

But I can't leave you with nothing, so...

1. If you haven't already, check out the terrific Grade-A monitor from our newsletter and website sponsor, Flanders Scientific (click on their links in the Ad below). I brought my panel to the Resolve 101 and 201 training with Warren Eagles this weekend. People were impressed, especially with its feature set which includes multiple pre-calibrated Gamma Settings (I run it at a gamma of 2.35) and multiple color spaces (Rec 709, EBU, etc). Not to mention a very wide viewing angle, a feature-rich set of options, and free factory re-calibrations for the life of the monitor (you just have to pay for round-trip shipping).

I also have a sponsor page on the Tao website with a bunch of other FSI links (scroll down to the bottom of the page for the links), if you want to edumacate yer'self on this pro panel.

2. Now's a good time to figure out if you need to update your drivers / software. With the release of Lion, a bunch of updates have been popping up across a wide range of hardware and software packages. Just remember - don't put Lion into a Production setting yet. Run it on a test partition and see how your software packages of choice are working using non-critical projects. If past history is an indicator, it typically takes 6 months after the release of a new OS for professional apps to stabilize for critical client work.

3. The Tao of Color's MasterClass Training and Mentorship for Resolve 8 has been re-opened to new members. You can join now to save $150 - $200 with the Early Bird Special... visit MasterClass.TaoOfColor.com for full details.

I also posted on the Tao Blog a 19 minute video ripped straight from the MasterClass - which will give you a sense of what my training encompasses and a behind-the-scenes look at the Members-only website. Here's another blog post from a few weeks ago with an early look at the MasterClass Training Roadmap (which has since expanded significantly).

4. Watch Twitter on Monday. I have it on good authority that another Resolve 8 training series is scheduled to be released. You can follow me on Twitter and / or follow the colorist Twitter list maintained by @aehric. I'm sure it'll show up in both feeds once it's released.

I'll see you in two weeks. Enjoy the start of August!

Sincerely,

Patrick
