Resolve Reviewed

Oliver Peters has a nice review of DaVinci Resolve 7.0 for Mac; tested on an 8-core MacPro running with a single GT120 card - a configuration that I'm sure will resemble many who buy the Resolve. Source: DV.com

CUDA

nVidia's new Quadro 4000 for Mac was posted to the Apple Store earlier this week. Then it was removed. And now it is back up. Some have speculated Apple jumped the gun on this. Upside? It is now available for pre-order. Pricing at Silverado Systems is $1200 and accepting pre-orders, shipping sometime this month.

GPU-based video processing is having a radical effect on the professional color grading and finishing business. What's the big deal about them? And what should we be looking forward to in this upcoming crop of cards from nVidia (including the Quadro 4000)? FXGuide TV has a nice interview with nVidia at SIGGRAPH earlier this year. HDSLR Solutions

Rarevision's 5DtoRGB app has been making the rounds in the HDSLR community. It transcodes h.264 camera originals to ProRes & DPX, apparently bypassing Quicktime decoding and its funky gamma issues while applying high-bit depth chroma smoothing. The downside? It's slow. While waiting for Rarevision to release a multi-core version of 5DtoRGB, a website has released an Automator script that allows batch processing using multiple instances of 5DtoRGB on multicore machines.
