From The Publisher
This Newsletter was launched on July 17, 2010 - twelve years ago last Sunday.

That's 525 Saturdays of curating and scheduling this Sunday morning email.

43 weekly deliveries per year! For twelve years. Whew!

Thank you to my lovely wife, the Tao Treasurer. She has amazingly given up those Saturdays to my email writing for this publication. Without her support, it would ship occasionally. Monthly, maybe? Quarterly, more likely.

And a special Thank You to Flanders Scientific! They have been with me for 11 of those twelve years! Their continuous support has been integral to keeping this effort alive.

If you enjoy this Newsletter, then keep FSI - and all my Sponsors - at the top of your mind when you're shopping in their product categories.

Finally, my thanks to YOU for subscribing and reading.

Who knows where we'll be 12 years from now? But I look forward to finding out together.

Happy Grading!

I'll see you next Sunday.

Sincerely,

Pat Inhofer

"The approach was similar for the scenes inside the ship. Although the lighting was more dramatic and moodier, with candlelight and rays coming through the windows, we still wanted to maintain the soft contrast."

Netflix's roadmap continues to unfold: "Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said last year in the Netflix Q2 Earnings Report that Netflix is building out its animation unit with the hopes of competing with the Disney Animations studios in the area of family animation."

Interesting: "if we are able to predict or analyze the Out of Memory kills, we can take device specific actions to pre-emptively lower the performance in favor of not crashing — aiming to give the user the ultimate Netflix Experience within the “performance vs pre-emptive action” tradeoff limitations."

](video) "While [Resolve's Magic Mask masks are quick and easy to create, they often lack precision for compositing. Nonetheless, it can be useful to access those masks in Fusion. The highest level of precision is not always required. Sometimes we want to start with a rough preview or have loose masks as garbage or solid masks for keying."

"I wanted an intuitive blanking option where you can change the aspect ratio fast using sliders for the edit page, so I created my own “Blanking Generator”. Free for download."

"Live FX features a basic toolset aimed at indie filmmakers who are predominantly filming on greenscreen setups, allowing them to build complete 3D environments and simple camera-tracked green-screen replacement setups in real time."
